First grade students in Mrs. Ericka Cadete’s East Street School classroom are sitting a bit more comfortably since receiving a generous donation of flexible seating options from Luso Federal Credit Union. Cadete shared that the seating includes six carpet rockers, one yoga ball chair, and two core chairs.
Flexible seating is suggested in the Responsive Classroom approach stated Cadete. She further explained, “Some of the immediate benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, using up excess energy, improving metabolism, increasing motivation and engagement, and creating better oxygen flow to the brain. It's no surprise that physical activity is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.”
Cadete had originally requested donations to fund the seating by setting up an account via donorschoose.org. At the same time she also sent an email to the Luso Federal Credit Union asking if they would consider jump starting the project.
“I was ecstatic when I was contacted by Luso saying they would like to fund the entire project,” commented a grateful Cadete. “We are truly thankful for this seating donation to our classroom. The benefits for my students were immediately evident, and appreciated.”
