For the last nine years Mr. Tony (Antonio Carvalho) has been the day custodian at East Street School, meticulously maintaining the inside and outside of the building.  From the pristinely waxed floors to the well groomed grounds surrounding the school, the pride in his work and love for the school community was always evident.

What also was evident was his love for the students at East Street School.  He would stop and greet students with a “Mr. Tony” smile and patiently listen to each of their stories.  Students especially enjoyed the opportunity to have lunch with him in the school cafeteria to discuss classroom activities, sports, the weather or their favorite electronic game.

East Street staff gathered in the library on Thursday, December 22nd to thank him for all of his years of service. Mr. Thomas Welch, East Street Principal, commented, “Tony was a hard working, dedicated custodian for many years. He always had a smile, and a story to share with everyone. I'm excited for him as he enters the next chapter of his life. He will be missed.”

Before leaving, the staff presented Mr. Tony with his very own “East Street” broom, gift certificates to local restaurants and a plethora of hugs and well wishes.  He shared that he will remain busy as he begins the next chapter of his life, which will include babysitting his grandchildren, and fishing, whenever possible.
