On Sunday, September 24th, the Ludlow Elementary Schools PTO sponsored their First Annual - FORE the Kids - Golf Tournament at the Cold Spring Country Club in Belchertown. The idea was brought forward to the LES PTO by East Street Kindergarten teacher and parent of a kindergarten student, Erin Keane, “I approached the PTO with the idea last year to see if a golf tournament might be something that the PTO would be interested in trying.”

“Many involved with the PTO felt it was time to change things up a bit,” continued Keane.  “The goal was twofold - to increase parent involvement and raise much needed money for the PTO. Typically the PTO holds fundraisers where students sell items to raise money- I just thought it might be time to try something different.”

Keane, and Jenna Jorge, a parent of two East Street students, took on the responsibility of being the co-chairs of the event. They were very proud to share that between sponsorships, raffle prizes and the golfers, the tournament raised a total of $8,300 ‘FORE’ the Kids!

East Street Principal, Thomas Welch was one of the many who teed off to support the event.  "As a principal and a participant in the event I appreciate all the work and time the organizers spent to make this such a success. Everyone I spoke to had nothing but praise - everything was perfect. It was a wonderful event that raised a lot of money for our students. I look forward to it being an annual fall event for our elementary learning community."

“It was an enjoyable, fun day with colleagues - and for such a great cause,” shared Chapin Street Principal, Nikki Reed.  “The community support for our elementary PTO was amazing. I will definitely be swinging my clubs ‘fore’ the kids again next year!”

Keane and Jorge wanted to send out a thank you to all of the sponsors who made the tournament such a success. “The title sponsor for the tournament was LUSO Federal Credit Union- giving bags and towels to all of the golfers and they also sponsored the breakfast and appetizers,” explained Keane.  “The longest drive sponsor was Dunkin Donuts/Salema Management and we had 30 hole sponsors from local businesses.”

“In addition, 64 generous businesses and community members donate various raffle prizes,” continued Keane. “Several businesses also helped fill the bags with snacks, flashlights, golf towels and seltzer water, and the East Street Staff purchased koozies for every golfer!”

“For our 1st year, we couldn't believe the outpouring of support from the community,” said Jorge. “That's what makes a fundraiser so great, people coming together to have a great day and raise some money for our schools. I am so proud of what my community did for the kids. Erin and I are thankful for the generosity, friendship, kindness and support of so many who made this tournament such a success.”
