As Veterans Day approached 1st grade students in Greg Bertsch’s class helped Nancy Golec’s kindergarten students create individualized cards for Ludlow Veterans.  Golec explained it was part of a reading buddy activity.

“First grade students regularly visit our classroom to help our kindergarteners with their reading and spelling,” explained Golec. “On this day the buddies worked together to decorate a card and add a special message to Veterans, thanking them for their service.”

In addition, students were able to ask Golec’s son, retired Army and current Air National Guard Specialist, Christian Mendes, questions about serving in the military, via speaker phone.

The one -of-a-kind cards were delivered to Eric Segundo, Director of Veterans Services for the Town of Ludlow, to be distributed to Veterans in Ludlow.
